In the very near future I will be replacing the fuel pump on my 91 model. Just curious if any one of you who have replaced this pump have run into any odd or unusual procedures with removal and installation. It appears straight foward, but again, I have not done this repair. Also, is there such a thing as an upgraded fuel pump? If so what, where, etc..

Thanks

John

Just to ask. Why are you replacing it? Several years ago my fuel pump of my '89 non-SE would stop. When I changed it thinking this was the problem the dealer asked me, why? Fuel pumps are not known to go out frequently. As it turned out my ECM was going out and the fuel pump relay would not pull in. I jumpered the relay out for a year before the whole ECM went out and had to replace the ECM. Only $89. Thank your Esprit Fact File! ( As I had said in other posts, the ECM control of the radiator fans had gone out 4 years earlier).

What symptoms about the pump are appearing?

After 60-70 miles of driving a whine appears from the pump. I've owned the car for about two years and its always been there. Within the last eight months the whine has become much louder. Now, when the whine is at its maximum dB level the engine will not deliver maximum boost. Again, the engine will deliver max boost until the whine from the pump reaches its loudest level at which boost drops. Quite obviously the problem is associated with the pump. But I'm certainly not going to claim I know everything. So please share your thoughts.
