I was wondering when I start my 88 Esprit cold, should it idle at a higher rpm when cold. It starts up quickly, but idles low at 950 rpms??? If not what should I check out on it? Thanks! Phil

On my 88, usually it is as yours. Goes to 950 and stay. Except if I pull the choke for 2 cm, then idle goes as high as 1800. The range 950 to 1800 changes with lenght of choke button...
I wrote usually, because last year and for a few weeks after a big week end of driving, the idle didn't go back directly to 950 while stopping at red lights. It slows to 1400 then after about 20-30 sec to 950. Reading service notes and so, it was normal and due to the solenoid (I think) lying front of the front carburator which regulates the idle for emission reduction purpose. Now without reason and without deconnecting the solenoid (what some owners do, the two cables are easy to find) it is not working again.. Chapman's Spirit???
Disclosure. I am not a pro nor a mecanic gourou. I just let you know my experience because nobody answered your question.
Hope this help
