S3 esprits that made it over to america have rectangular side reflectors with chrome trim on the fore and aft regions of the car. anyone know the history behind these? looks like something off an antique bicycle. the rubber gasket around mine have deformed from age. should replacements not be avaialable, i'll tear out the whole assembly and fill the holes with custom made flush lights.

Maybe Raleigh Bicycles had a few left over from their parts bin,my Gran had chrome strips on her circa 1914 bicycle with chrome mud guards.

Yes, they were particularly dreadful. A great lump of plastic and chrome on a sleek elegant car.



The TR7 did it much better, integrating the marker lamps neatly into the styling.

Those markers (amber in front and red in the aft) were pretty much standard Lucas stuff of the day.

I had a Plymouth Cricket with those lumps on it and would wager Marinas and related ilk shared them too. Of course these were cars from the 1960's and early 1970's. Guess Lotus wanted the really obsolete look.
