I'm looking to have the 2002 rear light clusters fitted along with an SE wing - SJ Sportscars can do this, but not until mid July.

Does anyone know where you can get the parts sooner? I have get them fitted locally.

Cheers all,

SJS have a backlog until July / August on Glassfibre parts.

I not sure whether anyone else does the parts in the UK. www.moto-concept.de do some body parts, they have a English Site.

Where are you having the fit and paint done. Ewelme Coachworks is in the next village to me, just outside Wallingford. They have a good reputation for lotus and TVR bodywork & paint. If you use them give me a report as I intend to use them this winter.

I am trying to work out what the rear light clusters on the 2002 Esprit are borrowed from if anything. Does anyone have any ideas and are they the same as the MkII Elise rear lights.
I think the look very similar to the NIssan Skyline GTR rear lights.
What do you think?

Regards Mike

As far as I know they are from the Elise.

They are elise lights. Claudius has done a kit that does not require any bodywork modification (i think the sj kit requires some fettling?)

Yes, they are the same lights fitted to the MkII Elise.

If you cannot wait, you may try either the Lotus OEM panel. This will require chopping the lower lip above the bumper on the rear of your car, (bodyshop could do it easy).

OR, you could try to get a similar panel from this chap in the US, he does two types one sort is simply pods like the toyota lights (as Rob's post above) the other is like the MY02 copy like the SJ kit.

I've been in touch with the above link - Claudius - and he will do the lights in 1 piece (or 3 piece) for $ 475.00 plus about $250 shipping. That works out as about the same (£485) that SJ Sportscars want.

Don't know which to go for - at least at SJ I'll be able to go back if there's a problem!

As for the lights being Elise - I'm also looking for somewhere that will do them in a LED style...

Go to www.lotusespritworld.com and checks out the parts suppliers section. There is a contact for fibreglass services 01243 554422 that make all sorts of Lotus spoliers, bumpers etc. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't already supply SJ with their stuff. If you find what you're looking for remember to say to fibreglass services where you got the contact from and support Kato's website.
He's still looking for donations for a laptop to improve the site, if any hasn't already sent anything.
Good luck!

Cheers,

ps. why are you going for an SE wing? Why not an early V8 or 350s wing? just curious.

Does this mean that you'll have a flat rear licence plate going spare? If so, i'll have it off you. Let me know how much via e-mail and i'll send the money.

Isn't the one from the States going to be setup for a US Rear license plate? i.e a different shape size to UK Spec? also the US indicators lights etc are different from UK (Elise).

OK, here's a wrinkle. All the conversion kits I've seen so far have the V8 logo depressed on the left of the license plate. If I were interested in doing this conversion to my 93SE, I obviously wouldn't want the V8 logo. What to do?

Has anyone spotted a conversion kit w/o the logo?

Of course, would be great to get one with a similarly syled SE logo in it's place. Just wishing...

..thought about the 350 wing - really cool! then saw the back end of the last Esprits being made and shipped to the US - and that's what I'm going for:
www.lotusespritworld.co.uk/EModels/V8US.html

The pics on the US site look exactly the same as the UK number plate, so don't think there's a difference.

..and yes, will have the middle section available when I have the one piece fitted.

Hi MadMike,

This is what I got from Steve at SJ:
"The light mounting panel is one piece, it looks the same as the V8 one. (no V8 badge) £350 + vat"
So guess that mens no badge, but doesn't neccesssarily mean there's no indent where the badge would be?

Just have the indent filled when you paint it. No biggie at all!

Are you sure they are the same? The US licence plate is narrower, wouldn't like to see you buy the wrong one. Have you tried glassfibre services like I suggested previously? I know with side skirts and valances, they were on about a two week turn around.
With regards to the rear wing, if you buy the newer V8 wing, you'll have to buy new dampers for your rear boot as the old ones aren't set up for them and the boot will come crashing down, just thought i'd mention it.
Anyways, when are you planning on doing it, so I can have your old licence plate surround???

Cheers,

Okay just a couple of things I can add to this...

The Claudius rear light conversion kit is a 3 piece kit (see rob.ellis's post for a picture) and comes with a US spec license plate mount (too narrow for UK plates) I'm thinking he can order the kit and just use the 2 outer light mountings and keep his UK spec license plate mount? it seems possible since it looks like the two outer light mounts just replace the old Toyota lights (although this would not look like a "true" 2002 rear end)

try looking at Kato's site...
www.lotusespritworld.co.uk/EMaintenance/2002%20Lights.html
it says 3-piece kits are still available

and as far as I can tell the rear of the 2002 model is the same for the UK and US (probably to cut cost in producing 2 seperate items) and it seems to have a "slot" at the top of the mount so the top of US plates can fit in the space.

hope that helps
Tony
