Does the 1990 Non SE esprit have an air filter. My manual shows where the filter is but the injection box where air comes in has nothing to remove as the manual states. I have removed the panel where the air hose comes into the injection box but there is nothing to remove, it all looks like one peice.
Does anyone know if it has one, if not then I find this a bit unusual, and if it does where the heck is it located/removed ??.

I'm going to do an Air filter guide in a few weeks. Just waiting for Les Twigg to finish with my K&N!
It should be in a black plastic box like connection on the right hand side (looking from behind the esprit). You need to remove the whole thing and the filter will be inside there.
Check out my Guide to doing a RAM AIR Converstion on the modifications page on Lotus Esprit World. You'll see a few photos in there. The RAM AIR feeds straight into the Air Filter. This will give you a good idea where it is.

Why you after the air filter? what you up to? Interested as I'm sorting mine out soon.

Thanks, it looks very painful to remove the filter, the box has all sorts of connections. My manual also shows it doesnt need to be removed which is why I am a bit confused ?.
The air hose already goes straight to the injection box.
I just want to ensure its in good shape and would like to replace with a K&N filter.

I've got an 89 Turbo (non SE) and as Kato says the air filter on mine is inside the box on the right hand side of the engine. It isn't difficult to remove and you can move it enough to get the air filter out without disconnecting everything.
Hope this helps

It's a doddle to access/remove your air filter. 10 minutes tops. You need a 12/13mm spanner or socket. The air filter box has two bolts with large hook type washers behind them. Loosen the furthest one a bit then the nearest one a lot. Twist the nearest washer, though I think you may have to remove the nearest bolt altogether. Slide the air box toward you so it releases from the furthest washer. The air box will now release away from the body enough to get the air filter out.
I've just replaced my filter for a K & N for £40. I think it's made a noticable difference.
Cheers,
