Maybe it would help if you posted a link, or at least the item number.

I've always found ebay to be dissapointing for any car above a couple of thousand pounds, better off in the specialist magazines?

I would have to agree. Most people do not look to actually buy an exotic from ebay. The best is that some people actually think the prices on there are accurate. I would try the forums and local clubs.

well when I got mine I checked all the above and the ebay prices in that 3 month window were basically the same as what you see in other adverts...
now 4 years later it seems the bottom has fallen out of the market. the guys that are interested are keen and knowledgeable but they dont wanna pay a decent price..
I think the lotus has fallen into the general british car zone in north america.

like for triumphs annd MGs .... the locals guys here all love british cars but have no money.. lol no offence.. just I was at the British car day a few time in toronto with 1000 british cars and there was not much of a wealthy crowd there.. we will see what happens.. I do have some decent bids and some great phone calls about the car. I hope someone steps up to the plate and buys her. She is in such a perfect state to be sold. everythign is running and the maintenance is done and it shows very well.

I tried the number posted above but didn't see a listing. Is it listed somewhere now?

all of the old stalwarts are selling their esprits. you were active on this list from way back, and most of the names and faces around at that time have since sold their lotus. many of these people were capable of doing all their own mechanical and body work. isn't that indicative of what the car is worth? the logic is a bit flawed if you aim your sale to an educated buyer. what you need unfortunately is an uneducated buyer to fetch the price you are asking. why not just keep the esprit as the first exhibit in your car museum.

Wow Teigan - you couldn't possibly be any more wrong.

If what he's got is half as nice and maintained as well as he says, an 'educated buyer' would be willing to put more into it. If I could've found a pristine Esprit that had been owned by somebody who knew what they were doing - I certainly would've paid more for the two I have.

I don't know what he's asking for his car but I do know that when I was looking for a second there was nothing left to buy that wasn't preposterously overpriced trash - I found one car that was as nice as anything I've seen for sale on the last 8 years and bought it. Along the way I looked at every beaten mule for sale in the lower 48 and can tell you the primary thing hurting the value of the Esprit are most of the 'uneducated owners' who have cars for sale. They bought them, neglected them, and now want to sell them at a profit while pawning their abuse off on the next guy - no wonder the values are in the toilet. I wouldn't want to pay anything for what's being offered either.

Anyway, Bojangle's car sounds like something I wish I'd seen when I was looking to buy another - might've saved me many a long weekend in the garage up to my elbows in grease.

Bruce, if you want to forward me a link to any ads you have placed (or info on the car) - there's a guy I see at Supercar Sunday alot who's looking for an Esprit. I'll pass it along.

his car is very nice, and i hope he gets a good price. he's invested a lot into it. however, i can't agree the asking price is realistic. supply is greater than demand at present, although you are right that most of the ones up for sale need at least 50% selling price spent on them to have a decent looking car. if the esprit really is good value, then why do present owners with immaculate cars decide to opt out and sell at a loss? my point is that owners who have gotten to know the esprit intimately tend to sell the car and trade up to a no excuses sports car. however, it makes little financial sense to sell your esprit, and the best advice i can offer is to keep it.

sorry for the delay posting .. if you are curious about how my car looks you can see item number 180098145417
I wonder how anyone knows what my price is? haha I have not said it anywhere. For what is is worth, it is not really priced high. The problem is that although the Canadian price has been mid 40's for a long time ( equivalent to US low 30's ) and now the US dollar has tanked and Canadian buyers want to pay the new US equivalent price (high 30's)

I have lowerd the Canadian price to beat the local market and it is 10-20k lower than any car lot or dealer would price it. unfortunately it makes it tight in the US market.

I have lots of interest so far. the next 10 hours will show who is willing to bid what.
I really hope the reserve is met, I dont look forward to the back and forth with the several people who want to discuss it after the auction.

Keep in mind, that as much as I would like to keep this car, I am selling it because I need the money. I have 5 cars and this is the one that has no looming issues (the M5 is quite good too.. but not worth much and I do feel pasionate about the M5).

I am sure it will be a bit sad to see it go.
