I read a lot about the stock V8 exhaust buzzing and rattling its self a part. Is this due to crappy construction or a fatal flaw of the over all engine layout?

The reason I ask is because I want to know if there are any STREET LEGAL aftermarket systems that will both improve power AND last (i.e., not vibrate apart).

The ones I know of are:

Tubi
DT Performance
That Japanese Company mentioned in a earlier thread.

Please share experiences with these and other brands, I'm very interested!

Luke.

Pretty sure those are the only 3. I would probably lean towards the Tubi exhaust. Also note that Marcus at Moto-Concepts offers two exhaust systems for the V8. I'm not sure if one if the Tubi ot not.

From my experience, the original exhaust on my V8 had stress welds... when it started cracking the exhaust pipe actually lifted up (gravity still dictates it should drop). LCU replaced it with the Sport Exhaust which has held up better. No cracking except for one tip coming off, but the damn thing buzzes constantly.

Still love driving my Esprit, but at some point I will replace the exhaust with something (and not straight pipes) and hopefully find a way to make the transaxle more tolerable.

On a side note, I would not invest in any exhaust replacement that is not made of stainless steel. I think Tubi uses 304 Stainless which is good but with the high heat of Turbos 321 stainless would be preferred.

If anyone has some experience with any aftermarket exhaust systems, I would be interested to hear some feedback.

The esprit exhaust will crack, but can easily be fixed if you can weld (or know someone who can). The cracking is more likely if the exhaust is fitted badly (ie its under stress as someone has forced it or tightened up one side clamps fully before pulling the other side up to the cat).

My sports exhaust has cracked and been welded, and i've had no problems with it in over 12 months/20k miles.

Suppliers of aftermarket exhausts, as well as Tubi, D&T and moto concept who have already been mentioned, there is also Stebro and Quicksilver (straight pipes). There is also Southwest European (Scottsdale, Arizona) who make a 'crossover' system.

Regarding the "Cyclone" (japanese) one, i just had a mail saying they only do these special order and actually make them ON the car.

In the uk, the Tubi supplier offers a lifetime guarantee with the exhaust - ie if it breaks, they give you a new one for free!

Hope that helps.

ps - i have a sports exhaust on my car now. I have run "straight pipes" like the quicksilver setup but found them too loud.

Does Moto Concept sell their own brnad (looks like they have two) or retail someone else's?

Also, I can't quite tell if the 'tip' on their site is trying to play down the usefullness of Aftermarket systems as a whole, or just straight pipes. I think something gets lost in the translation. Any thoughts?
