My mate had a slight off the other weekend in Denmark, the road went from dry to wet on a critical point on the (fast) bend of the slip road. He's had the car about 60 days, was enjoying it until a couple of weeks ago. oops.

He was fine, nothing serious. Surprisingly, he rang me straight after and was joking about it. He's now in the process of sorting the insurance out, getting it shipped back for the work etc.........

So far the estimates have come back about 15k to put it right.

It a shame these cars are getting wrecked but more importantly the driver is OK. That's 2 V8's wrecked in the last two weeks. At this rat, there'll be none left!
That's the problem with the Esprit or any GRP car, even a small crash and the repair bills go through the roof and most are uneconomical to put back on the road.

Glad to hear no-one was hurt, but like Dave says, the car is touch and go as to whether it would be written off as an uneconomical repair.
It's not a huge amount of damage, but to have it rebuilt properly is a lot of man hours.
Pass on our condolences to your friend and our 'Get Well Soon's to the car!

He rang me this morning to say he's had a good estimate from Lotus, so now he's got to ruck with the insurance company to get it sorted. They want to write it off but the only problem is, where the hell do you find a red Esprit with cream leather, they don't exactly grow on trees!!!

I'vw got one! They are rare though! For some reason, many red cars had black interiors. I also found that red Esprits were very unpopular with the dealers and hard to shift and this would be presumably reflected in the factory orders. I chose red because it was the colour I disliked the least and thought it would age better. If I had my time again, I would have waited a bit and gone for deep purple with cream. The main reason for this is that I am sick and tired of motoring numskulls asking: "Is that your Ferrari?"

However, I am so sorry for you and your car and hope against hope that you don't see the car written off as the loss would far exceed the car's value to yourself. I have had a similar experience with an X 1/9 many years ago and I pressed the insurers (Direct Line) not to write the car off and they didn't. The figures involved were much smaller but the principle is the same. I hope you succeed - don't give up !

Its the best colour combination in my view. Years ago when the old chap used to be a dealer, it was the only colour he had them in, Red with Magnolia, there were a few exceptions, i recall a Silver S3, a White Turbo HC but they were nearly always that combination, it shows the car in its best light.

To look at the pictures you wouldn't think it was that bad, amazing what GRP does to the cost.

Who knows, its in the process of being arranged to be shipped back to the UK via covered wagon to Hethel, its going to be stripped and re-built by all accounts by the mother ship. It should look like a brand new car when its finished...............

Just spoke to my mate, apparently the guys at Hethel are cracking on with his baby, it should be ready for Friday from what i gather. I did offer to pick it up for him but time will be tight on Friday as they shut early, maybe next week then.

I will get some better pics than the ones he took, looking all pristine and brand new!!!

Just spoke with the factory, they're waiting for one last part which has gone back order, so it looks like he won't get it this side of Christmas, but they're sounding confident about having it done by the New Year.

I was looking forward to picking it up actually, but alas, it will have to wait now!

I bought my 91SE on ebay as a salvage car. Similar condition.
It took it to a good bodyshop that specializes in fiberglass and they fixed it up good as new.
I did buy rear bumper and skirt fom a guy in New York who 'upgraded' his. Front bumper I got from England and front skirt was made by a guy in Georgia who had a mold.
