Hi there. Just joined up and looking forward to a lot of friendly Esprit banter

Couple of questions I hope you can answer.

1)I have been trying to find out the servicing intervals for the esprit A, B & C. I have heard that it should be done in ABAC order...anyone agree or are there other lines of thought here. I thought I saw a page on lotusespritworld.co.uk (fantastic site) but cant find it now!

2)I am in the process of looking for/buying my first Esprit. I am going to look at a 99 GT3 & a Sport 350. The sport is really out of my price range but do you think it's worth me stretching the budget to get it or should I listen to my head instead of my heart and start off with something a little more sensible!!!
Any help will be greatly received
Thanks

Sport 350 are around £32,000. A GT3 is around £18-24,000, so it will be some stretch.

The 350 is the ultimate V8 with a production run of only 54. The one to get if you can afford it (and find one!).

The 300 is the ultimate 4cyl. with a production run of only 63. They go for around £27,000 (and you'll be really luck to find one).

GT3 are common at the moment and can be purchased at very good prices. 2.0l 240bhp. Very reliable and with the newer interior. A good second hand buy along with the S4s.

As for services the 4cyl. are ABAC as you said with 6,000 miles between each service. A large C service every 24,000 costing around £1,000+. A's are about £200, B's are £450 (all depending on where you go and what needs doing).

V8 have only B & C services at longer intervals. A B service will be around £400 and a C over £1,000. V8 owners should be able to help more on that.

email me on kato@lotusespritworld.com is you want to know any more.

S350 is likely to hold it's value better in the long term for the very fact it is a limited model. It's a good buy only if you can stretch to it without compromising a small float set aside for service and maintenance since Esprits can often create unplanned expenses!

GT3 is a good all rounder, early 96-7 versions had the older style large binnacle interior, and the later 98-99 had the newer cockpit. Some prefer older, some newer, it offers you the choice either way.

Which you choose depends on your driving confidence and previous experience. If you are used to powerfull cars you might yearn for more after having a GT3 for a relativley short time. If you are new to the Esprit, you may find the S350 too hot to handle to begin with Whichever you decide, try and get good test drives in a 4 pot car and a V8. And take it easy on the gas in damp conditions in the low gears!

Thanks Guys. The GT3 I am looking at is a 99 S reg 33k the garage wants £22.5k I took a fleeting glance at it last week. Quite a few stone chips and a bit of a scuff down the driver door. The dealer said it has FSH comes with a years warranty.
Something you may be able to help me on here. When I had a quick look last week it had a sticker on the front wing that had a "50" in a sort of shield (I think)....all in all about 2" high. I know I am being a little vague here but is this some kind of commemorative model. It's in Azure Blue.

The 350 is not available to demo until a few weeks from now. My brothers friend who runs the local Lotus Dealership said its in black & according to Kato's wonderful site there were only a few of these ever made (can you shed some light here Kato) He said it's gonna be early £30k's. Perhaps I could sell some vital bodyparts to get the extra.

The services on a GT3 are different to the older 4-pots, they go ABABAC - so a C service ( i.e. one that is around £1K ) is every 36,000 miles.
