Does anyone have a pic of what an EBPV should look like? I just took my exhaust off and that came off as well. What I don't understand is... where's the value?? See pic:

Am I missing something (literally)??

Chris,

The EBPV (Exhaust Back Pressure Valve) is installed to remain closed on engine start to quicken the warm-up of the catalytic converter. It is finnicy, sticks, rattles. So much so, that many Esprit owners simply wire the valve in it's fully open position. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

The butterfly is gone in the picture. A circular metal plate attached to the rod through the EBPV.

Calvin,

Do you think this was how the PO disabled it (removing the buttuerfly flap) rather than tying it off..?? Jim'85TE

It looks like it's all chewed up. I suppose if he removed the butterfly plate, the easy way would have been to drill out the rivets or screws. I can't remember if it had rivets or screws holding the plate on. I do remember that it had two fastners on the rod holding the plate on. I don't think anyone would have hacked it off as that would be too hard to do. I don't understand why he didn't wire it open like everyone else. They do sell a solid piece coupler that one can use in place of the EBPV.
