Tell me, how do you remove the outer drive shaft on a 1982 S3 N/A from a rear wheel bearing (and then the bearing from the hub carrier), if you don't have access to a press?

.....is there another way to do this?

especially with it having been on there that long, you're gonna need to find someone to let you use their press. you can try heating it and deep lubricating the gap with capillary action. too much frustration though.

Don't use a hammer on the aluminum rear hub carriers, they will brake!

I used to freeze my bearings and drop them in to an oven heated hub (not too hot).

Don't know much about thermal properties etc but what about heating the hub in the oven and then using plumbers freezer spray on the shaft? Worth a try and might be better than the persuasion stick?

Cheers,

Dave.
