couldn't agree more, its covers everything and even stuff you've never even thought of. I put a friend onto it and he said without its facts usefull information, he would prbably have bought a wrong'un. There's specific buying guides to each model, and most of the road tests too.

From the advert, it looked an absolute peach, it must look blinding in the flesh. The guy who owns it obviously takes pride over his vehicles, very rare nowadays. My advice, every single ycar you look at, take loads of pictures for reference. Good luck and keep us informed.

There is a JPS special edition and also, may Esprits which are not JPS special editions but feature JPS colours, ie, Solid black with gold frills. This is a Turbo Esprit in JPS colours. Many people refer to this car as the S3 turbo although I don't think Lotus ever called it this. If you are new to the car, it gets very confusing as the nomenclature is strange in its organization. For example, as far as I know, the Stevens facelift "rounded shape" car which appeared in the late 80s was referred to by many specialists as the S4. This made sense as it was a major update and it came after the S3. Lotus put the mockers on this by calling the NEXT facelift the S4!
I think you are correct about the JPS special edition being an S2 and as such, it would be naturally aspirated.
I think it would have made much more sense to call the Stevens facelift the S4 and call the S4 the S5 with the '98 MY cars and later being the S6...maybe not?
Part of the problem with the Esprit is that due to the hand built nature of the manufacturing process and also because of the numbers involved, almost every variant would qualify as a special edition by the standards of most car makers! I mean there are less than 500 of many of the variants and less than 5,000 of all of them. Less than 12,000 in almost thirty years makes the Esprit very exclusive indeed.

In answer to your question, the only true JPS Edition was the S2. There may be some one off S3 Turbo models but these were probably done as a factory order from new, but were never badged as such.

Personally, i would go for the S3 Turbo and if you can find an HC variant which would be 87 MY, with the same miles and condition, i would break the guys arm off!!! There was only 1 car i knew of, that used to belong to HRH King Hussein of Jordan before his death in 1999, it was an Esprit turbo HC in Pearlescent White with Magnolia Full Leather, only covered 3500 miles and it was mint condition, and i mean MINT!!!! It looked like it had just come out of the factory. It was sold by Stratton Motor Company to a local guy, then he sold it someone else, i did make enquiries but never really pursued it. But there are some nice models about, Paul Matty has a nice Blue HC though, not sure what the mileage is, but his are always prepared to high standard.
