Hi all,
I'm getting my rear spoiler from SJ Sportscars soon and I wondered if any of you guys with a Sport 300, S4s or early V8 could let me have the measurement from the back lip spoiler to the front of the rear spoiler (I want to get the fitting just right)

Hi,
I have an '89 non-SE. I have the X180R spoiler. I was curious what aerodynamic model your using for location of your spoiler. Car manufacturers are required not to allow a stock spoiler to extend beyond the rear bumper plane. Private owners, however, are not required to do this. I put mine directly on the rear spoiler allowing it to extend about 1.5 inches beyond the bumper. The pillar of mine is 4.75 inches front to back and fits within 1/8 inch of the lip ends. This was based on info from people in the Atlanta Lotus club where after market people put theirs.
In the far back, check any F1 or CART car, the air is cleaner without body influence and the spoiler is free to suck more air from under the car to improve downforce per Bernoulli. Mine has been outstanding in downforce, as my aerodynamics book said it would. My rear bumper gets REALLY dirty.
The only negative I have is my fitted car cover needs a little tug to get it over the wing but it will defintely not blow off.
Those of you who have the spoiler on the hatch, do you get stress cracking of the hatch? And what about the leaks I heard about?

Hi this is where mine is positioned, hope its the same wing your talking about. It sits well before the end panel line. Even this far forward, it still hangs a long way out the back of the car. Picture tells a thousand words

Hopefully here some answers and dimensions which may help you. Mine is by the way, an aftermarket rear spoiler fitted by Christopher Neil in Cheshire.

The front of the spoiler to the front of the lip/ indicator intersection is 435mm. To the rear of the lip is 600mm approx. It was raining and still dark when I measured it this morning.
I think the deciding factor is the rear of the wing as it site on the body should be either flush or slightly forward of the lip/indicator intersection joint. This still makes the wing sail past the rear bumper a bit.

I've found out that if I display your pictures on the webshots website and then reload this page, it works !! But if I empty my cache and reload, the pictures disappear. It must be something to do with the webshots site. Also, there is no www.weshots etc as you have in your lat post ( it's just http://webshots etc ) , but you do have the correct address on your pictures !!!
I've tried using yahoo as well, that wont work either.

Thanks for trying, cheers. I have to start using another site or do a basic one myself but haven't learned how yet.

Oh the other things to remember...make sure you have good clearance when opening the rear boot before you start drilling holes, I nearly got my fingers squashed between the wing and end of raised boot 
There is not much room there. And how are you planing to attach it, permanently? Mine is fitted with two screws on each side with a small rubber pad between. We did a home job a few months ago on the gearbox where we took the wing off so we wouldn't scratch it, as it just gets in the way. Just a thought.
