I've not long had my 97 GT3.driving The whole time I've been trying to cure various brake problems.
1. when the ABS kicks in the pedal pulses as expected but falls to the floor as it does so.
2. the abs seems to come in very early and the car feels like it's not going to stop.
3. at high speeds 120mph+ the brakes pull very badly even with a light aplication of the brakes
4. once at 130+ the brake pedal went to the floor and needed pumped twice to get brakes. pedal had been ok till then and ok after.
I've tried lots of things over time, checked all the calipers are free and the pads float freely, bled the brakes (as lotus instructions), changed the rear discs and pads that where stepped and worn, checked all the bushes etc. for excessive play/wear and they all appear o.k.
The car is equiped with an accumulator system which i have little knowlage of.
Any help or advice would be very greatfully received, I'm at my wits end and may just ditch the whole system for a conventional brake system.banghead

Try asking here: www.glcforum.com/esprit/forums/index.php?
It sounds like an accumulator issue, which is reasonbly common.

the accumulator is a parts bin part so you can pick one up for less than Lotus charge.

If it is that of course.

get someone who knows to look at it.

Otherwise just Ebay the lot and fit an after market system. If you have money to burn that is.
;-)

My old TMC brake setup in my S4 was WOEFUL, I fitted an AP racing caliper/disc kit with braided hoses/better fluid and Ferodo race pads and (provided that the electrics and accumulator are in order) it is a mile and a half different (and better) than the stock stuff. It was a bit expensive but I value a short stopping distance.

good luck

I'm up in aberdeen and local experts are thin on the ground unless I drive several hours south!!
I can check things myself if I know where to start looking?
Does anyone know how to check the accumulator?
P.S. The car is fitted with Brembo calipers

Hi,
I bought my GT3 from a guy in Aberdeen. The comprehensive history/service file that came with the car showed Carden Motor Co in Broomhill Road, Aberdeen to have done most of the work required and they seemed pretty knowledgable when I phoned them before buying the car. I understand that one of the guys previously worked at the Lotus dealership that used to be in the city.
