Sorry guys I'm bored again . I work from home and can't motivate myself ever since I bought my motor. My office is a converted garage. My view every day and all day is this

Anyways, I was thinking what type of music or song reminds you of driving or working on your Lotus?
I got the latest Red Hot Chillie Peppers CD for Christmas and the whole album brings me happy thought of my new toy.
Anyone any tips on how to motivate my work. Business is suffering slightly.

Never owned an Esprit but I've had 3 Lotus' so I'd go for 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' The Verve!

I too work from home and it's very easy to stop writing code and specs and surf about all day posting here and sending emails there and so not getting on with the job in hand ( err, like now infact ! )

I do not listen to music in the esprit. Only the news for traffic warning during peak hours. The noise of music of the engine is the best I have.
On the other hands, the James Bond theme reminds me how I discover the car I started dreaming about it.

I didn't mean what music do you listen to in the car. I never have my stereo on, always listening to the engine/exhaust note instead. I meant when you hear a song being played that reminds you of your Lotus.

Any tips on motivation. Does the excitement wear off after a bit or is there something else that takes your mind off your Lotus?
Is your car right in your field of view? Maybe I should close my blinds or put a cover on it. That's it, I'll put a cover on it! Anyone know a decent reasonable waterproof cover supplier?

Hi,

I dunno, but listening to Steppenwolf's 'Born to be Wild' sorta gives me the feeling I get when throwing my Esprit around. 'Git your motor runnin.....Flat out on the Highway...! Jim'85TE

Definitely the James Bond theme, as well as the Conorman tune by Henry Mancini, the best however is the Outfield (the song "One Hot Country" from If Looks Could Kill is on their greatest hits, that's #1 on my playlist in the car) it always makes me want to go out and tear up traffic. Filter's got a tune I think is called "Last Seat on the Bus", if that one doesn't get you a ticket, nothing will.

Anyway, if I hear any of that stuff, no matter where I am, I'm in the Lotus.....

Dave,

I don't know whether this fits in with your question ideally, but for me there is one theme that reminds me of the Esprit totally since it was directly related to the marque and my interest in it.

I'm refering to theme music created for the computer game 'Lotus Turbo Challenge' many years ago. I used to play it fanatically when home from school (instead of homework ) driving the virtual Esprit through the various stages of the game, imagining having one one day.

There was the main title music, and also smaller stage intro pieces that I recall in my head whenever I think of driving my car. I wish I was able to sample them to a CD, but I don't have the PC version of the game. Anyway, that's mine! Anyone else remember those games?

(There was the Elan in it too (Turbo Challenge 2) which I never liked driving: too slow! )

Regards,
Nicholas

I've had an Esprit for 11 years now and I still think about it all the time, so I would say it does not wear off !!

The best thing for motivation at home ( for me, anyway ) is, as I work on fixed price contracts, is to get the job done as quickly as possible then you can a) have more time to wash and polish it and b) have more money to spend on the things that go wrong with it !!

Cheers Adrian, I've never really thought of it that way. Don't know how long i'll have this one but know in the future I will get a newer one. It's good to know that you've owned one for the last 11 years, that's inspiration in itself! But what will you do now they've stopped making Esprits. Do you think you'll keep this one for years to come? At least i'm relatively low on the ladder so can move up to say S4, S4S, GT3, V8.
Now to knuckle into some hard work. Again I haven't yet experienced the high running costs, so no money, no fun driving hey.
By the way, your job, is it interesting? Sounds it!

Having gone from an N/A S3, to a Turbo to a GT3 the only place left for me to go is a V8. But, well, the GT3 is very good. I've had it quite a while now so it's worth more to me than it would be to sell it.

People do think my job is interesting I suppose. At the moment I'm writing software to control the Fire & Gas detection system and the Emergency Shutdown system for a chemical plant in Iran. I've done the same thing for oil rigs and gas platforms. It's the system that shuts the rig down if it's going to blow up. I've also worked on software for reprocessing nuclear missiles in Russia and controlling the Thames Barrier. Hey, when I write it down it sounds good !!

Jezz Adrian, another clever person. Bit of responsibilty there huh.

When I am on holiday in the southern part of NZ I usually don't take the lotus, cause its a few 1000ks away from home plus getting it on the ferry. The roads are long and no houses hardly to be seen. I like to crank up good old U2 or the partner being in the music industry likes a good classical range too, sounds geeky but some of it like pavaroti & friends is pretty powerfully neat and I think - classy!! Real soul burning stuff and dream of being in the lotus opening it up on some of these roads wearing some posh leather gloves and my Gucci's.

You know what, I still can't remember that movie or the car in it. Saw it when it first came out and it was on telly here recently but missed it.
I'll have to look out it next time it's on!
Well back to work now, i'll just put my "Red Hot Chillie Peppers' CD on to remind me of mine though it's sitting only 10'-0" away from me all day!

Dave am just off the song topic for a sec, what do you do for a living at home? I would love to work at home full-time. You must be totally motivated.

Iam a cladding draftsman or draughtsman/ designer. Basically a bit like an architect but only specialise in roofing & cladding. Football stadiums, retail units, schools, shopping centres etc. Money wasn't up to much working for a company so went on my own. Isn't much better but at least I can buy a few luxuries now and again, if you know what I mean.
It's a bit of a boring job when you've been doing it for 14 years. Though I designed part of Kuwait Airport in 2001 and flew out to Dubia with the company I was working for on 11th September of all dates! Plane turned back only 30min from Dubai. I was in the air for 11 hours that day not knowing what was going on.
Ran out of fuel and had to do an emgergency landing in Turkey.
Besides that, I don't travel with my work, just sit in my office and stare at my car!!
