Got bored today. Noticed at the weekend that the glovebox was rattling. When I looked inside, the lock had completely fell to pieces inside which must have been like this when I bought it. It took me a little while to work out how it went back together as I hadn't seen it assembled. Anyway, there was a spring missing inside the barrel to make it pop out again so it still wouldn't work. I improvised and used a spring from my quick release wheels, on my bicycle. Works a treat now but it was fiddly holding the other spring and putting the spindle back in.
Well need to get to work again

Never had that happen to me yet.
I hear it's a common part, but don't know which car it's off of. It is off a UK car though, I think it's like a MG or Morris.

Clever!!

I think the spring in mine must getting a little tired as it takes a bit of effort pushing the lid down to make it click in. But I guess its to stop it rattling. Another thing to check out when I have the time

It's very essy to do. Well if I can do it, anyone can. The internal spring is easy to replace. So if Kylie you want to fix yours, just let me know and I will send you some details.
Another little job next is to do a clear front indicator conversion but not getting much response on locating the parts. Posted a topic recently but no joy. May make something myself that's completely clear! Keep your posted. Also Asked a guy is Isle of Man about S4 engine vents he's fitted on his SE. Also keep you posted.
Cheers.

Now Kylie's problem I've had. I just adjusted the striker bar on the inside of the glove box. After a period of time and closures the bar moves down a bit and it get hard for it the latch. Just re-adjusting the striker plate and tightening the screws should do it. Also unless this striker is adjusted properly it may cause strain on the latching device and cause it to fail.

Nice one Calvin. Kylie, also check the hinge as well. This too has a slotted hole which can also affect the alignment of the glovebox. It's just two screws.
Actually come to think of it, mine since i've fixed it does appear to have a little play, may adjust the bar as Calvin suggested.
