With the Esprit going out of production after a well deserved 28 years, does anybody plan to build replicas of it? Just like the Cobra, Seven etal, will the Esprit be continued as a nostalgic replica?
Both the Giugario and Stevens designs could be done, although the G car I guess would be more popular. Powered by Chevy V8s and Japper four cylinders?

A new kit company venture methinks?

The Esprit's are a pretty good value compared to other exotics. Why buy a replicar when you can get a real one for the same price or less?

I don't feel it would be good if someone started producing replicas, probably because I'm biased by the exclusivity and nostalgia.

However I do feel as an alternative it would be good if Lotus sold the design rights to a British builder plus the tooling required for production. This was the car would be 'authentic' yet still improved year on year. This is not as outrageous as it sounds for Lotus. It has done this before with the Lotus Seven sold to Caterham and which is still going strong today as a continuously improved roadster/racecar. The only other time I recall is when they sold the 90s Elan to the KIA group. Not a good choice as it wasn't a British producer but still you see the point.

Nicholas,

Don't forget Westfield and Birkin. Both had license agreements to replicate Lotus cars, specifically the Seven and the Eleven...Jim'85TE
