any hints on getting the leather off the seat? i'd like to get the split bolsters sewn back up. it's hard to do, even by hand without access to the flipside. if the leather comes off and on easily, then i'd prefer to remove it first. thanks for whatever potentially helpful information you may have.

just to give all you knowledgable people an update, i ended up using a small surgical needle to give the seat stitches from the outside. it required no removal of the seat, and i was able to to recreate a machine double thread stitch using the old holes. took way too long to do though. woke up feeling like a pretzel, and my fingers are all blistered from handling the little pliers.

So you have the stiches showing on the outside, surely not? Show us some pics

i guess i should post pictures. but i need to search out some before pics to prove it was torn. everything looks good as new. the stitches use the original thread path, and i was able to find a matching color thread albeit a little thinner gauge. i can also sketch a diagram as to the threading procedure if others are in the same perdicament.
