im losing water in my chargecooler system somewhere, even when i feel the header tank up the water isnt pumping around im assuming iv split a pipe or something because a faulty chargecooler pump wouldnt explain a loss of water can anyone shed some light on the situation cheers

the water could evaporate away, but if you're filling often and the water immediately disappears, you have a serious fault. try looking for pools under the car, but don't run the engine very long until you know what's really going on.

If the pump seals go, then water will leak out of the weep hole onto the block. You might see a puddle, but maybe not sometimes.

It can also leak in a chassis pipe, at the radiator, or one of the many hoses. My bet is the seals, as they go about every 8000miles on me. That's why I'm switching to and electric pump.

It's ok to run the engine, it just won't be very fast as the ECU will cut the boost and timing. The impellor for the cc-pump will be destroyed if run dry, but I bet it is already. A rebuild kit is available.

pump seals at 8k miles? that is ridiculous. That is not good justification to change to electric.
We need to get better at solving the real root causes here.
My pump has 30k miles on it and still good as new.
There is no special science to designing the seals. Dont blame the engineers for bad design here. something else must be wrong.

I said they go every 8000miles on me, not necessarily everybody. Actually the seals don't but the rubber impellor does. But many people just don't know when it actually fails, because many people don't feel the change in performance over time, or don't check the MAT temps, or don't drive at high ambient temps and high altitude as I do.

The good justification to go to electric is that the rebuild kit sells for $64+shipping, and I got the electric pump for $100... If I had bought the electric pump years ago, It would have already paid for it's self in mechanical pump rebuild kit expense saved.

I didn't blame anyone. I gave helpful/informative advice. I also mentioned that I chose to go with an electric pump, as many others have, my reason is my own.

the electric pump is the way to go imo. i have one and it just runs and runs, no worries. the mech one utilises an old port for a distributor on the old carbed cars (i think) so is a jury rigged hotch potch really. the factory endorse the fitting of electric pumps too.

Dear Matt.

I had this problem with my delorean! I found the chargecooler was messing up my flux cappasitor. However, after a few bangs with a hammer and filling her up with some banana skins and some empty beer cans, i was once again able to reach 88mph to send me back to the future!

I hope this has been no help at all.

Cheers
