Very Dissappointed at my Club Lotus Valuation
Discussion
I have just received my valuation from Club Lotus for my 1990 Turbo and Iam very dissapointed.
The car has 60K with FSH. I have completely renovated the interior, new carpets, fixed central locking, Stereo and electric ariel.
HPI valued it at £11K in good conditon but Club Lotus have only valued it at £9K. They say that the Esprit market is very vunerable at the moment with some people paying upto £5K more for the same car at a dealer or at a specialist. As a result they waiting for the market to settle down to a stable state.
It looks as though they have covered themsleves and 'down-valued' my car. I think the best way to get an idea for the value of your motor in UK, is to do a search on the Autotrader website at both private and dealer prices. My car appears to be selling for much more.
Maybe they are right and my car is only worth £9K, what your opinion?

mine is the same vehicle as yours and they valued that at 9k also. It did for my current insurance (footman james) but I rang classic line and they were half the cost £264 for the same cover and they were prepared for a value of at least 10k. I think another area that club lotus are crap and don't really give us esprit owners service. I haven't bothered to renew my membership as I'm not impressed with anything they have done. I got more help from my cat than that lot.

I bought my 83 turbo last April, insured it through sureterm direct for £300 (after getting many quotes), on an agreed value of £9000 had to send them photo's etc of interior exterior engine bay etc, etc. I did note however I did get a quote for an esprit which I said was worth £7000 and that was about £30 cheaper on the insurance. Its seems, if you can get them to agree the value they will charge you according to the valuation. i.e. more expensive car=more expensive insurance. If you are not getting rid of the car I wouldnt worry too much, but for insurance puprposes probably better off getting a quote from one of the other insurance companies, cheers, Jez UK.
I've already took my insurance out which was £360 . I didn't phone around unfortunately. I've already paid in full for the insurance so I will have to wait until december for my renewal .
Unfortunately didn't do any research on buying an Esprit or the insurance, though Iam learning now, the hard way. Fortunately apart from the insurance and joining Club Lotus I think that I was lucky (touch wood)and didn't buy a heap.
All the time I was yearning for an Esprit for many years, that time should have been spent researching the right model.
The other good side is that I paid a lot less than £9K, so at least it's worth more than I paid. I just thought it my have been worth £10-£11K.
The next Esprit I buy, I will definately know what to look for and the insurance companies to get quotes from.
Thanks guys for your responses, I know Iam not alone out there.
Cheers,
