I may be opening a can of worms here, but someone told me about "the"(not the Esprit Fact File) Lotus forum and I joined. I eagerly sent a topic only to find I recieved no responses at all. I'm not sure if everyone on that forum is to busy responding to new Lotus colors or if they don't like new members. Has this happened to anyone else, or am I just "special"?

Could be a few things. There is more posts there and sometimes it gets buried at the bottom if you post over a weekend, since it seems a lot of people do not access it over the weekend. Plus that is a higher V-8 percentage ownership. Plus maybe they saw your post here first and thought you already had the answers.

One other suggestion: try making your Subject line more specific and appealing, with something like "Skid Plate" or "transaxle mount", as you did on this list, rather than "Parts question" or the like.
From what I've seen, almost no question goes unanswered on the Yahoo group list.
Anyway, looks like you're on your way here.

You mean the turboesprit yahoo group? That is an excellent source of info and there are some great guys on there - only trouble is its popularity. With sometimes over 2000 posts a month its easy for things to get swamped. Don't worry, its not personal :-)

You can try re-posting.

The TE list is populated by a lot of V8 people as opposed to this forum. A few are hands on people, but most by nature of the cars still on warranty and the cost of these cars both contribute to make these cars ones that many people do not work on personally. Many hands on people refer to these people as waxers, not wrenchers. It's not meant to be derogatory as they are still true lovers of the car. Oh, there are exceptions to the this rule, but not many. I used to be a frequent poster to the TE list. But now spend more time on this forum. The list has many cliques and old timers are well known. With the volume of posts a recognizable screen name helps a lot in a speedy reply. When I first saw this list about a year ago it was very slow. Sometimes only a few posts a week like the general Lotus section. There were a few 4 cyl questions. During the 1st 4-5 months of being on this site I replied to many many people (100's of replies). Sometimes to the point I though I was monopolizing the site. I contacted a few others 4 cyl. owners of different models and asked for their technical assistance to help with this forum to answer as many owners as possible. Although well versed in the S body SE and variants. I truly lacked the many hours of G body hands on experience of a true Lotus guru. I am glad that this list has finally taken a life of it's own, I enjoy reading and learning from all of you. I think that this forum is a great place for the 4 cyl. owner. The V8 hands on people will take off on it own after a period of time.

Also the TE list is moderated by an S4 owner (4cyl 2.2)
I'm sure if you had any queeries they would be answered. I usually pipe up if noone else does but I'm not around all the time. Incidentally I have a 4 pot too.

TE list might be due for a spin off like when the original Lotus list spun off after it got large. Not sure if Brian the moderator still has a Esprit. I thought he sold it last year, could be wrong. While many including the famed and revered KFM use the site. Since the list has gotten so large even I do not read all the posts. I am guilty of selected reading on that site, I usually read posts who I have had extensive banter with in the past and rarely chime in on V8 issues unless it is from my old time pals Ed Gomes or Mark Pfeffer who used to be former 4 cyl. owners. Do not get discouraged, post away on the list. Also this forum still is drawing more people as time goes by and it gets better known.

I find this forum far easier to use.

Fewer ads, simple to follow threads etc.

I also like the opportunity to see what our TVR cousins are getting up to.

General Gassing can be pretty funny too...

Karl,
Years ago when the TE list was in it's growing pains and you had the EFF on a different server. It was responsible for my trouble free Esprit purchase. I read all the sections that were available, an excellent source of information. It has gotten even better as time has gone by. Many consider it the de facto Esprit info site. I guess you know you have something valuable when others raid or pilfer from it as I have seen people lift images and text from the site more often these days. Now don't get mad, but even I have printed off the site and given it to a friend. I always give you proper credit and many times just give people links to site whenever possible. So yes, you have fame and the thanks of many past, present, and future Lotus owners. A person who has made a positive difference in many people's experience with the Esprit. I remember my e-mails corespondence with you and your help. I try and follow your example to help others as much as I can.
Thank you again for your contribution,
Calvin
