Hi, have an '88 Esprit turbo, problem is she's idling at over 2000 revs, doesn't want to come down, tried disconnecting the solenoid for the carbs above belts at the back to no luck. any ideas?

Did you try the idle set screw in between the throttle bodies near where the throttle cable is attached to the linkage?

Oh, this is after you of course check the throttle jack and the throttle position sensor if you have one on your car. Don't know much about the 88 mechanical injection. Robert (Swedish Surgeon) knows this type of system well.

Hi,

As Calvin mentioned, check to see that the engine is warm and turn the idle control screw that you achieve 900± 50 RPM.

Now, manually run the idle up to 1600 RPM and check that the throttle jacking solenoid (TJS) is engaged. Let the throttle drop below 1,400 RPM and observe that the TJS is disengaged.

Now turn on the AC and observe the idle, it should rise above 1,200 and should fall when the AC is switched off. If all this occurs, the TJS is operating. If the RPMs registered under an energized TJS are too high, adjust the screw which the TJS contacts on the throttle spindle, if idle speed is off, reset to 900± 50 RPM using the idle adjustment screw on the front of the rear carb.

Finally, if none of this has any effect, remove the plenum cover and insure that the throttle plates return to a fully closed position when the accelerator is released and that there is no slack in the throttle cable, or induce some slack if the cable is so tight as to be preventing full closure of the throttle plates. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

This happened to me more than once. One time the IAC valve fell out. One time I pulled out the two fuses for the ECM and let it reset. One time it was the fuel pressure thing that keeps the fuel line pressurized. If you turn it off and turn it right back on again, is it OK then?

Skerd,

Couscous has a Bosche injected '88, no ECM, no IAC valve. Good try though, it would have probably been good advise for an '89! Jim'85TE
