Central locking Working fine!
Discussion
Thanks for your replies on my central locking not working. It was the central locking control unit.
I went to PNM Engineering and took a chance and bought a new one for £35(bargain). We looked at his service notes, by the way Pete at PNM is excellent and very helpful. Anyway it looked as if this unit was situated behing the dash according to Pete but a took another chance and looked under the bulkhead in the front boot opposite the fused box. It's bolted to the intersection of the floor. The problem with this is Iam getting a bit of water/moisture in my front boot. This is getting into the unit. Stripped the unit down, it's very easy. The outer case just slides over the circuit board. The terminals where corroded and parts of the board. There are 2 solonoids on the board so I tripped the switch. To my amazement the passenger side unlocked. At first I thought the board was now OK but still could get a connection when I plunged the driver's solonoid. So in the end put the new unit in and WOW! it worked!
Pete said that I could take the unit away with me but if I opened it, I wouldn't be able to return it as it was electronic. My car could have an underlying problem which could damage the unit and he wouldn't be able to resell it.
As a result, things paid off. So if your central locking doesn't work (I didn't even know I had it!) check the fuse first, then check this unit. It's far easier to access than stripping your doors. I have not refixed my unit back to the floor as I think moisture will get into it agian. I have lifted it and trapped so water can't get to it.
