I've just bought a K & N chargefilter for my 1990 carbed Turbo from SJ. Asked what other simple enhancements I could make to increase airflow. Steve said that K & N in his experience does not give anymore bhp only make it breath more easy, maybe more responsive? He did say that to increase airflow on my carbed turbo, simply swap the air intake that goes to the filter with the one on the other side. The one that goes to the airfilter has an air silencer on it which may restrict airflow slightly. He did say that I would notice a difference in noise level, air sucking noise. Haven't tried it yet, may give it a go when it gets warmer. Need to address other issues first.
Has anyone done this and is there any difference?

Dermot has done this on his S4. Exactly as steve says, its a bit noisier and improves response.

Dermot

Any chance of more info. Sounds like taking a pipe from one side of the engine to the other. Like to try this at the weekend.

Kato,

It's quite easy. Iam not a mechanic but a little handy. Stripped the area in question yesterday. Should take about 1/2 to one hour to do.
1. Take your engine cover out.
2. Unsrew the rear parcel shelves (it's the best that I can describe them.
3. There you will see a 60-75mm dia flexible pipe going from the air scoops just forward of your filler caps. One leads to the air filter box, which is silenced. The other goes to a hole on the opposite side to exhaust vent the engine.
4. Simply undo the two jubilee clips that hold each pipe and swap over.
5. Refit in reverse order.

Hope this helps. Let me know how long it takes.
