What do I need to keep heat and sound out of the cabin?

there's only a sheet of plywood between you and the engine bay. a number of products will improve the sound dampening in the cabin. in my experience, the wind noise is more annoying than the engine noise. try upgrading the door seals first. lotus didn't do a very good job with tolerances, so some shimming may be necessary to get a good seal.

there's already a heat shield on the plywood, so what you need is better circulation of air behind the seat. i've got cheap 12V computer fans mounted to the seat rails, running directly off the cigarette lighter circuit. it seems to help, although i haven't measured the improvement.
