I am helping a friend repair an accident damaged V8, but we are having a few problems. We cannot manage to get into the boot/engine bay!!! The cable going to the release mechanism is broken & we cannot see how to get to the mechanism. We have the hinges & struts off the boot lid to try & give us more room to get to the pins but no luck.
Anyone know of any quick method of releasing or which panels / items to start removing first.

Cheers

Andy

If the cable is still attached to the latches, I would try to remove some panels in the cockpit area to see if you can't give the cable a good pull.

With the roof off. One person stands in the sunroof onpening. Hatch piviot bolts off. He will support the roof up with his hands under the hatch and roof. The front of the hatch is tilted upwards a bit. The second person is at the rear of the car. He will grab on to the wing near the uprights. He will pull up on the wing while shaking the hatch in a back and forth motion in forceful manner. Many times this will break the hatch free. If not take a hammer and break out the rear light pods, reach in and release the pods. the pods are from a early model Toyota Celica 85 I think.
