I have the P0442 error code and I have checked all the hoses and
everything appears ok. I have tested the purge solenoid according to
the service notes and it appears to be closed (Holds Vacuum 34 Kpa).
The service notes states to use the Tech 1 tool to operate the purge
solenoid to the open position. I checked the voltage of the
connector and I get a good ground and when the ignition is on I get
about 9.36 volts at the connector but the solenoid doesn't open
(still holds the 34 Kpa of vacuum).

I'm assuming that if zero volts go to the purge solenoid then it is
in a default closed position. Then when voltage is present the purge
solenoid opens. Is this correct?

After I clear the P0442 code, it comes back on as soon as I turn the
key (but before the engine starts). So I think it must be electrical
that is why I'm looking at the purge solenoid.

The purge solenoid is a standard GM part (1997278) but it is hard to
find at the local auto parts store so I might have to go to GM
(Chevy) to get one. It cost around $20.

Thanks for the help.
