Lotus Esprit Shift Gate - Ferrari Style
Discussion
I have had this picture on my webiste for ages now. I found it somewhere a while back with no information about it and way to contact the person who has it. I was wondering what all of you though of it. Follow the link, its the second picture going to the right. (To the right og the British Racing Green S4S)

LV-8,
Considering the tight tolerances in the crossgate adjustment and the general slopiness of the Esprit shifter in general, placing a gate like this on the car is really asking for trouble. As the crossgate cable stretches, you'll be continually adjusting it so that running through the gate actually results in finding a gear.
And, since the cable is really only adjustable in half-turn increments, you may find the ideal setting falling somewhere in-between which means that you'll have a shifting difficulty you can do nothing about. Looks great, but bad idea! Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

That is a shame it couldn't be used, it is rather nice. I sat in Simons friends F Mondial the other day and went through the gears. But I felt as though I would always be looking at the shift gate making sure it went in the right slot, thus taking the eyes off the road, quite a neat feeling though.
The partner loves making things out of stainless and alloy, so could easily make one with the right dimensions given.

Agree this looks great, but i have to go with Jim on this one.. it would not be a good idea!
It would be interesting to see if you could track down the owner of this car and see if there were any problems with it - maybe a post on the turboesprit group would shed some light on who's car it is?

The pic is atleast 2 years old if not a bit older. I have tried to find the web page from where I acquired it to no luck however.
