My uncle owns a DeLorean, which is the worst car Colin Chapman ever designed. We were flipping through the latest issue of Hemmings Motor News and found that we could pretty much get the cost of an '85-'92 Turbo Esprit for the DeLorean.

Two questions:
1. Should he do it? which is related to the second question
2. What areas would be problematical in an Esprit of that age? Are there any that cause large ongoing expenses?

A third question I have is about fuel mileage. What sort of MPG does a 1)naturally aspirated Esprit
2)turbo Esprit
3) v8 Esprit attain?

chaparral

check out www.espritfactfile.com and www.lotusespritworld.com

you'll find your answers and a whole lot more info on there.

cheers
Rob

ps my v8 does around 23 mpg, but these are proper gallons, rather than the things you use in the usa. my GT3 (4 cylinder) did about the same.

Spooky how threads pop up at the same time....

CP - see www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=13&t=27764 - I think you may be disapointed with the latest stuff. Go Sport 300 or pre and it'll be a hoot!

I read the post, Joust, and agree with the major premises. However, you have to remember, here in the US our choices for British Supercars are - the Esprit and the Aston-Martin.

My advice: drive one. Drive as many as possible if you can. At least in the US, the old ad copy is right:

The Esprit doesn't compete with other supercars, it competes with sex

IMHO

Ah - too true Ernest! (sorry - in my slightly state didn't realise CP was a state side poster - )

I remember hiring a "sports convertible" in the east coast and getting a "Sebring Convertible". Nuff said.

Compared to the wallow barges that you get in the US - *any* Esprit would be sublime in MHO!

[P.S. Your's is the Dog Danglies given where you are - ultimate respect!]

[P.P.S. - If Peter W or Noble ever manage to get their creations over there - try one of them! ]

I am with you on that one. In fact I was in touch with Noble last year (via email) about the prospect of coming to the US and they said it was "feasable". I may even consider opening up a Lotus/Noble dealer business if they do come over (I have been thinking about the possibility of opening a Lotus dealer already I have just been too busy with my other projects. The Elise will sell like hotcakes, so I should get it in gear if I am going to do it )

If you actually manage to pull it off, then I might take up that SF job offer

You would make a very large technology company very very happy if you work out a way of getting a Noble into SF I can tell you!
