Amusingly, in the course of my twincam rebuild I have discovered that the water pump pulley is not in-line with the crank drive pulley. To the tune of 0.145".
I can feel a shimming session coming on...

The Pumps Pulley Mounting Hub is Pressed onto the Shaft and the Shaft's Position is set by the Bottoming Out the Pressed Pump Bearing Inside the Water Pump Housing.

If you Press the Mounting Hub onto the Shaft so that the Pulley Aligns, there isn't enough Surface Contact for it to Hold on.

In other words, the Pulley has to be Shimmed by installing Washers between it and the Hub.

As it happened, there was a set of washers in the bag with the pulley etc., I must have forgotten they were BEHIND the pulley and put them in front!
Rectified it, alles in ordnung. Oh, and the engine and box are (finally) back in the car. I can see a small patch of clear floor in the workshop now...

I note that the pulley is actually a Ford item
