Red Hose Problem
Discussion
Yes I have got it, am asking if people who have done the upgrade have noticed a big improvement in gear change performance. I have trouble when changing down 3rd to 2nd.
Is it recommend buying the kits on-line that are available, or buying readily available parts seperate?
Regards,
Kylie

Kylie,
Certainly the mod to do to your Esprit. I'm surprised that after all these years, Lotus didn't just correct it in production through either an Aeroquip hose or a hard line. I know people who've done both. I got my mod from RD Ent. and it made a more positive feel to the clutch.
One thing though, 'the Red Line' cure really only takes care of shifting problems once the car is fully warmed up. When you first start up, the cold 'Red Line' is as rigid as the Aeroquip hose. Only when it warms up does it become pliable enough to expand, diverting pedal force to the slave cylinder.
Most shifting troubles usually lie in improperly adjusted crossgate cables. The tolerances are such, that just a quarter turn on the crossgate extention rod can result in significant changes to the shift. I'd do the hose replacement anyway, but suspect your solution lies in a crossgate cable adjustment. Happy Motoring! Jim '85TE
