magnaflow exhaust questions
Discussion
Ok, sometime soon here Im looking at having a new exhaust put on my 90 SE.... after seeing a video somewhere on the internet of Sanj's car with the Neil Micklewright exhaust on it driving by, this car sounds BAD ASS and I want to go that route. Sanj has some pics on his webpage of neils exhaust setup and if you look closely, the system incorporates a basic magnaflow circular pipe that is just an inch or so bigger then the actual exhaust piping.... reference: http://turboesprit.tripod.com/exhaust
few questions on this...
1. if you go to magnaflows page here www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopdis...one=main&id=351 you can find all of their round body mufflers that they sell... they are all at the 20" long but they have different widths around.... neils looks like it is only about an inch above the rest of the piping. my questions is, if i go with a bigger diameter, how does that affect the sound of the exhaust in general? I am most likely going to be getting rid of the CAT and running straight through.
2. the CAT.... how big is the diameter coming out of the cat? if its only, lets say 2" and then i get a 3" exhaust pipe all the way back, then whats the point of the bigger tube if all the restriction is right at the cat?
3. cat delete pipes.... why do they sell things like the EBPV spacer and cat delete pipes? Cant you just tell your exhaust shop thats doing the install to just make the pipe longer where these areas are and elimiate the need for these esperate parts? or is there actually some sort of difference in the cat delete pipe then a normal pipe? why couldnt i just run plain old pipe direct from the turbo all the way down to the magnaflow part and out?
4. 2.25", 2.5" and 3" pipes.... i know larger is more free flowing, but in all practicality, what is the optimal for the kind of setup im talking about here? I plan on doing a BOV, #3 high torque chip, bigger primary and secondary injectors, the ram-air mod and a K&N filter.....
I appreciate any help, Thanks in advance!

There is not much difference between the 4 and 5 inch models as far as sound is concerned. I used the 4 inch on mine.
A 2.5 inch pipe is plenty suitable for the mods your talking of. 2.5 inch pipe is good up into the 350+ bhp.
I used 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipe with the magnaflow 4 inch round. No cat and no valves. If I'm correct I think this is the same setup that Sanj and John Welch use. It certainly does sound good.

the reason for the cat delete pipes, is so you can bolt the cat back on quickly and easily. i'll be having to do that every other year where i live. used to be cars older than 20 years were exempt from smog checks, but the environmentalist nazis keep getting their way.
when i welded my exhaust, i opted for a single exit tip. the factory double looked too busy for the space it occupied.

Let me Guess...because 1 Exhaust Tip will only release Half the Exhaust Gasses of a Dual Tip System?
