What grade of engine oil?

What grade of engine oil are you guys using. It is an 83 Turbo fitted with an HC engine, i've heard of people using Mobil 1 0W/40, Carlube 15W/40, Mobil 1 5W/50 etc etc. The previous owner was using Mobil 1 0W/40. Also what grade for the transmission? I believe lotus say 75W/90 but people recommend Redline MT-90, To give a'smoother' shift ?? is this true? is this full/semi synthetic? I am not familiar with the 'Redline' brand in the U.K.

Jez,

Most guys this side of the pond use Mobil 1 in the 15/50Wt. Redline is a fully synthetic gear oil and contains 'soft carbons' similar to graphite which better lubricates the synchros as they slip. I've always used Mobil 1 SHC which is fully synthetic and a lot easier to get hold of on this side of the pond

Several places sell it including Burtonpower mentioned previously.

1989 Turbo Esprit. I use 20/50 Amsoil synthetic racing oil.

What is Mobil SHC? is it Mobil motorsport?
