I have an Eclipse CD player in my Lotus Esprit which will not accept a CD to play..
Has worked perfectly for several years......any ideas???...could this be part of an anti-theft
feature??

Sounds like it is just plain busted to me. Take the unit out of the car and see if there is a small hole anywhere with a switch in it. Some CD players have a reset witch which will cause the player to eject. This would help if the machine is jammed. Could this possibly be the reason (ie, there is a CD jammed in the machine which won't eject but also stops a disc from going in.)
Could any of our little inquisitive ba...sorry, children, have inserted anything into the player and thus jammed it ?
Have you still got the manual, is there a reset code ? Has the battery gone totally flat at any point ? This would cause the unit to forget its security code if it has one.

Thanks for the ideas. No kiddies in the car. I tried the reset switch, didn't have any effect.
This is a single load unit. I don't have the manual and can't seem to find one.
Still looking for a solution.

I'd cut your losses. For instance: We bought my son a Clio last month. years old, good condition, factory cassette. Went on e-bay and got a nice Sony minidisc player for twenty pounds, went to Halfords and bought four speakers for £70. Hey presto ! Two hours later and he's got a splendid car hi-fi with four speakers and a column remote for under £100.

The moral: Junk the old one an go forth to e-bay !
