Any danger running 101 octane? I can't imagine there would be, but I thought I'd see what the consensus was first....I can get it from Alliance out of the pump. Since gas is already $4.00 here, another 50 cents seems worth it for a tank full of race gas.
The octane number is an indicator of the fuel's ability to avoid premature combustion or "knocking". So there isn't any danger from higher octance but if it is higher than required by the car you're wasting money. You might check that the octane rating reflects the conventional measurement methods. The old 101 "high test" of 1968 would probably have a 92 or 94 octane rating by today's method.
In CA all I can regularly get is 91 anyway. 94 would be great even if it were misrated as 101.
Thanks...
there are octane booster additives on the market, but you won't notice any difference in lotus car performance.
all tried and tested by our resident Oxford Chemistry Don. And all apparently a load of old b0ll0cks
