Transaxle seal replacement
Discussion
I need to know the proper procedure for pulling the axles and replacing the transaxle seals on an S4. I ordered the manuals CD but they haven't got here yet. If somebody who knows could give me the rundown or maybe forward me the pages I'd be eternally greatful.
I'd wait but I've got the parts and a long weekend ahead of me... Must. Fix. Leak.
Thanks!

The only change I might suggest is to remove the upper suspension link instead of the lower. It is much easier, especially if the lower has never been off.
I agree, that's how I did it this time and it worked fine. I should makes some updates to the doc anyways since I have that tool.

I removed them both and it made quick work of things.
The only nightmare is finding a square 10mm socket to pull the drain/fill plugs with. I looked everywhere - no go. What a stupid thing for nobody to sell.... :-(
Snap-on tools has them $13. Part # PMP410A
they have a british version too

Lotusse89,
Thanks a ton for the doc. I'd have been a lot more apprehensive about the whole thing if hadn't had your instructions. They were great.
I completed the task about an hour ago. The first side took me all day, the other took 45 minutes. In the process I found a few things that streamlined the effort and made life worth living. When I get the energy I'll jot them all down and send 'em to you-
Things like - I put the seal in using a 1-1/2" socket with two layers of tape wrapped around it to keep it from slipping (I used gaffe tape, but any tape'll do). When I was aligning the shaft during reassemblIy I rocked the tire on the opposite side with my foot to line up the splines. The 'lotus' jack can be operated by hand, placed under the rotor and used to lift the assembly while lining the bolts up - getting all those washers and stuff back where they belong was a real bear until I started using the jack.
I probably should've taken pictures... anyway, It's done thank goodness. On to the fluids change...
