Seat Height Adjustment
Discussion
Hi there! I just sat in 2 Esprit v-8's.....One of the seats was higher than the others.....so I asked the salesperson about it and he told me that you can take off up to 4 layers on the seats to adjust it, but that he has to send the seats in to some company to make them do it....For my height (6'2"), I would need all the layers removed to make as much room as possible...now my question is this.....is what that guy told me correct or just one of his sales-tactics....and if it is correct, has anybody actually done this themselves? Are those layers simply bolted on or does one need to remove them using some sort of machine? Thanks for any info....I'm sure lots of you have problems with the seat height....Thanks in advance, Indy.

Hi,
While I do not have a V-8, I do have V-8 Seats in my '85 turbo. Rather than lower them, due to the deeper sills and extra width of the V-8 seats I had to raise mine.
In a standard installation, the seat tracks sit on any number of large washers. You can remove all these washers and lower the seat approx. 1". Further, some really tall people have removed the slide mechanism altogether and simply bolted the seats through the floor. Granted this removes one's ability to adjust the seat, but how often do you do this once it's in the correct position for you anyway. Hope this helps...Happy Motoring...Jim '85TE

I agree with Lotusguy. I have a 1990 Turbo and Iam 6'-3" and 224 pounds (102KG). I have just refitted my seats last week and took the advise of Lotusguy. I removed the rear 1/2" washers and put them on the front. I then put a wafer washer on the rear to prevent unnecessary stress onto the floor. Also when I restored my seats, I put extra padding in certain places (lumbar) and adjusted the carrier hooks underneath the seat. This has now made a noticable difference. The washers made the biggest difference as it now supports my thighs a bit more and my back-side seams to be a bit further away from the peddals. Iam looking at modifying the pedals slightly. I need another 1/2" to 1" on the clutch pedal as it seams to be the highest pedal. There appears to be a lot of slack in the pedal. I've noticed that there are two aduster screws. I will first take up the slack and see if that makes a difference before actually removing the pedal and modifying it. Iam a little concerned about affecting the clutch preformance, so I will have to be careful, hope some of this garbage helps you.
