Did you know that Esprits with a factory fitted glass sunroof has a different shell than one with a composite sunroof? I've just found this out. My 1990 Turbo has a glass sunroof fitted now but it originally came with a composite sunroof. I sometimes rattles and so I did some research. Certain people on the web said that because the composite sunroof was thicker and the gasket was under compression for many years, the glass roof is so much thinner hence the rattle. Having made some enquiries at www.sjsportscars.co.uk Steve has informed me that Lotus made the opening different for factory fitted glass sunroofs. He also told me that it wasn't just the case of changing the gasket for a glass roof one but he did come to the rescue. He told me that Lotus made about 15-20 openings wrong so they made a special gasket for a glass sunroof to a composite roof shell. The good thing about all of this was that it was buttons to buy! Thanks Steve at SJ Sports Cars.

The glass roof for the later models require a gasket change. If you have one of the Saratoga plexi roofs, they do not require a gasket change. I have one of those roof panels and the GRP roof panels. The fit is identical in all dimensions. Everyone has trouble with the late model glass roof, but not the 88-93 Saratoga plexi roof.
