I think they are quite ugly, why did they use them? And why Toyota?

Oh well, I guess I have to accept them sooner or later...

At that time Toyota owned about 25% of Lotus. Lotus had no money, so some off the shelf taillights were readily available. Plus, I remember reading somewhere Colin Chapman said he picked them because he liked them.

Hi,

The taillights on the 'G' model turbos are from a Rover. Perhaps better looking than the toyota ones, but much more difficult to find as replacemnts. Happy Motoring...Jim '85TE

The tail lights for the original shape Esprit were upside down Rover SD1 tail lights. When the Peter Stevens restyle was released in 1987, these had the Toyota items. However, as Colin's been (supposedly) dead now for 20 years, I wouldn't have thought he'd have provided too much input...

Cheers, Mike.

I've just spoken to www.lotuspbc.com who say they will have a cheaper option for doing the round light body kit conversion on their site after Sunday.

Hope that's some help.
