it's a motorola. you can get it rebuilt for much less than a new replacement.

I thought it was a Valeo on the S3's, same as SE's? If so, replace it with a Bosch.

you're right dr. hess. i just checked the service records and the valeo had failed at 16K miles. the motorola has been ruinning for more than that. not a good reflection on valeo. are you sure you want the lotus chosen part blackhawk? i don't know if mine was a direct fit (probably not as it barely fits). the bosch requires some modification too.

Guys,
Thanks for your input, much appreciated. The one off the Jag is Motorola and the correct output, the only diffrence is the wheel and that has now been changed.

Thanks
Craig

The S3 Injection System is Voltage Sensitive...I would suggest that you upgrade to a Higher Amperage Alternator.

These Alternators sometimes have a problem with the Copper Winding Wires Cracking at their Connection Points, Arcing and Blowing out the Regulator.

If the Bearings and Brushes were OK in your old unit, then chances are that this was your problem.

The solution is to Solder the Connections and install a New Regulator.(Cheap Fix)

The Jag unit will work, but 70 amps is minimal.

The problem with Lotus is that the High Amperage Alternators require alot more space.

My '83 S3 has a Motorola, the original unit as far as I can tell (insofar as it has a 1983 production date on it!).
Stripped and rebuilt it a few weeks back as it was full of cr@p due to to being sprayed with oil from a leaking seal for god knows how long, plus the associated dirt that sticks to it.
Desoldered everything, degreased it all, bead-blasted the alloy and reassembled in reverse order
Didn't even need the bearings replacing.
