Have had my new CF engine lid on the car and am undecided how I want the finish look to be. I know of a few people who drive their carb turbo cars without their engine cover on, purely because they like to hear the carbs and the flutter of the turbo. What I am asking is whether I have to drill holes in my new CF engine cover and fit the metal grill inserts. I would like to just heat insulate the inner side of the cover and put new rubber seals on it, without transferring all the other stuff. Would be kinda cool looking straight into the engine..

Any thoughts, pros and cons…?

Personally, I think it would be fine without the metal bits....

More pics please....

Here you go Jim

Looks kinda cool looking into the engine. I have to give everything a good clean.

the con would be leaves. lots of them, falling inexplicably into places you can't even reach with long tweezers. yes, it has happened to me.

I like the metal vents myself. Gives a finnished look. That is my only dislike of the Veyron (but hey, cannot afford it so my 2cents is out).
Could go with a different type of metal than the OEM to dress it up, say polished steel, bright aluminum, or in the case of a black car - take the OEM stuff and get it copper washed so it would appear gold.

Now your talking!! Polished something or rather in there would look VERY good. The other half is quite clever with polishing alloy. Would have to make something pretty to fit in there.

Here is an interesting link:

It is in New England, but I should think a part like the vents from the motor cover should not be as high priced as a grill or something? I have seen copper on some old hot rods and roadsters and it looks nice. As I said, "gold" could be the ticket! for dressing up black.

Hi Kylie,
I personally would refit the metal grill Its part of the original design and it may also have an air flow effect ...

Thanks Marcus, I have been lectured by the other half about this too. Looks like its all going back on. The bolts will be replaced with polished shiny ones though
