Hello,

Hopefully someone can help me with my '97 V8. All the lights associated with opening my doors have stopped working. This includes the center interior light and the lights inside both the doors themselves. I don't think this is a blown fuse, although I haven't checked the fuses. The manuel does not indicate a fuse controlling these lights. Does anyone have a suggestion? Has this happened to anyone else? They were working fine last week. Also, after quickly checking the car over, I don't believe any other lights are out.

Although this isn't a major issue, its nice to have light when getting in or out of the car. Thanks for any help.

It can't be a problem with the lights as they wouldn't all go out. Same for the wiring. Has to be either a fuse common to all these lights or, alternatively, a bad connection at the switch. Try shyoving the switch in and out vigerously a few times and see if it makes any difference. Try some contact cleaner. Finally, check all the fuses. A14 (small box in front boot) does the interior lights (and also the clock, has it stopped ?)
You don't say if it is the workshop manual or the owner's handbook you are using. You actually say " manuel" which conjures up an hilarious image of a gastroenterologist, a proctoscope and a vertically challenged Spanish waiter ("looking up Manuel" Sorry, couldn't resist that ! The workshop manual is worth ten times its own weight in carbon fibre. If you don't have one, get one. It will tell you and enormous amount of useful information but not everything. The small ommissions aside, it is essential if you plan to do almost anything other than fork out a fortune in repair and diagnostics services.
According to my manual (which has not always had totally correct wire colours) the passenger door light has a purple wire and a purple and white wire. Try connecting the terminal with the purple and white wire direct to earth (piece of wire touching the terminal at one end and (if you want to be really sure) the negative battery post at the other. If the light comes on, it's either the wire to the switch from the earthing point (unlikely) or the switch itself.
Could be something as simple as a bit of crud on the switch contact ! Let us know how you get on.

I feel stupid. Shortly after posting, I realized my analog clock had stopped as well. It was a fuse and upon replacing, everything worked fine.

I like it when the door-open lights go out and stay out...

Bruce,

Mine did that also until I took it out. The clock was running but the hands were slipping on the shaft...no innuendos intended
