Info needed 1991 Jim Clark Esprit
Discussion
I need help on gathering information on the 1991 JC Esprit cars. My brother passed away last month and I must eventually sell this car. I have found very little about these cars other than 20 were imported to the US . Any postings here will be of great help to me. Even stuff on what to look for such as abnormal wear, maintance( has 9800 miles)or the usual idiosyncrasies of owning a car built in the UK ,will be of great help. I thank you all in advance
for any info you post here.

The car is basically a 1991 model year with some unusal color schemes. BRG exterior with yellow painted wheels, and yellow leather interior. Special editions normally get a little more but not much more than the non special editions. This particular has an unusal color scheme that some people love and others are not so fond of. There is one listing for Jim Clark I think on auto trader that one person is asking a lot, maybe more than double the going price. Good luck if he gets it as it has been listed for a while. The Lotus to begin with is a limited production car anyways so to many they are all special editions so a commemorative edition does not command a whole lot more maybe a tad more. To Find out more about your car go to www.espritfactfile.com you have 1991 SE with some cosmetic differences.
Good luck,

You can also goto www.lotussource.com and click on model specs. Look at the 88-92 SE. All the specs for that car are there.
If you want the maintainace history of the car you can contact Lotus Cars USA (www.lotuscars.com) and give them the last few digits of the VIN. They can tell you the service history while the car was under warranty (if it was serviced by a dealer).
The car is rare and it's MSRP was $97K! Today, its value is not much more than a SE in simular condition unless you find just the right buyer. You can check SE's at www.ebay.com, talk to Arnie at Lotus Cars USA, or contact a good dealer. The highest volume dealer in the US is Fox Valley (www.foxvalleymotorcars.com). Bill Nuccio is the President and can give you some feedback on value.
Good luck.

There are two other markings on the car that make it a limited edition. On the headrests the leather is stamped in memory of Jim Clarks victory at the Indy 500. Under the right A/C vent on the passenger side is a plaque stating that it is a Jim Clark edition and the production number. I have #16. Other than interior/exterior color and the above two items there is no other difference that I am aware of.

I owned #16 from 1996-2000. Second owner. Loved the car.
How's it doing?

Hi,
As Calvin said, the JC Comm. Special is not to everyone's taste, mine included. I have heard numerous references to them as the John Deere Special because of it's color scheme's similarity to the that of the Farm Implements of that name.
As has been stated, you'll need to find the right buyer to get a premium price for it. If your need is for a quick sale, you may have to actually let it go for less than a non-commemorative SE because of it's unconventional livery. Happy Motoring!
P.S. My condolences on the loss of your brother...Jim'85TE

Hi there,
She's doing absolutely fantastic. Love the car. I've done many upgrades and changes to better the cars performance. Log onto www.lotusespritworld.com to see what I've done with the car. If you go to the owners section and click on Stevens Esprits you will see it. Thank you many times over for taking such good care of the interior and exterior.
