Okay... I cannot slam Aston Martin. After all, Bond is remebered by many driving one. But wait... he drove aa Aston "last time". Now that Lotus has a world wide offering doing very well again, why not market it in a Bond film?
I ask, "Why did Bond never drive another Esprit? V8 perhaps?"

Marketing is a good thing Lotus!

It worked for the Esprit (and at age 35 it is the car I remeber bond in first)...
I think a Bond Elise would really be nice slice of pie!

Unfortunately I think the production team are more willing to whore themselves to product-placement these days than be true to the Bond image. $100mil marketing tie-ins and Proton/Lotus seem to be mutually exclusive.

Yeah. It is all pay-to-play. Wonder why Heineken is in virtually all the movies now? Not new, either. _I Love Lucy_ had a cigarette in every single scene as part of their contract with the cigarette people.

On another board I frequent, one of the DIY type car shows approached one of the board posters that has a Miata business. They said they would do a 15 minute "feature" on one of his products where they install it on their car and oooh and ahhh over it for something like U$20,000.

Went through all of this with Heathcliffe Robertshaw at the factory (acting general manager) As he pointed out, the producers are more interested in the lolly than the heritage. Omega pay more so JB loses his Rolex, BMW pay more so he loses his Bentley / Aston /Lotus. Even a ...dare I say the dirty word.... TVR...would have been a nice twist but no. More money is put up and decades of tradition goes out of the window. If James Bond was an Italian and BMW tried to buy him out of his Ferrari / Lamborghini / Alfa, the Italian government would step in and make sure their national hero was not prostituted out of his heritage by some grubby Deutchmarks ! The government should use Lotus as a sign of quality engineering to be proud of and as an example of what this country can do if it tries. Now if I was in charge.........

Except that James Bond used an Aston in the Goldfinger book, and as far as Ian Fleming was concerned he never went near a Lotus. Which bit of the heritage do you think the government ought to pay to protect?

He also drove a Bentley in Casino Royale (the book), never saw it happen in a film...

today's bond movie is just a 2 hour commercial. get over it. you're only a victim if you pay to see it.

Everybody is forgetting...the Biggest British Box Office Draw isn't Bond, it's Harry Potter.

Maybe in his next Movie he'll turn in the Flying Broom for an Oreck....

There was one in From Russia With Love, though probably not the sort of Bentley the book Bond would have approved of.

A Bond Elise would never work - no space to put the rocket launchers, machine guns, smoke screens, etc.

I never see James Bond films at the cinema until a mate goes and tells me its good. Now Pierce Brosnan was a reasonable decent Bond, but i have to say, Die Another Day was pure S##te!!! Just went over the top to be honest. I'm looking forward to Daniel Craigs effort as that is supposed to be the true Bond character, dark and sadistic. I would rather he drove an Aston but occasionally drive an Esprit, its traditional. BMW's just don't cut it to be honest.

No familiar with the actor, but I was not a Brosnan fan. however, as you stated, I think it was the scripts. Golden Eye was good... Aston toss back to Goldfinger... but I really wanted an Esprit to show as the new films came out.... You are right. That last one really really sucked. It was just Diamonds are forever, re-told with a twist, and crapped up with over the top CGI.

(still like to see an Esprit - maybe the "bad girl" could drive it!

Personally, I think Lotus is smart to keep out of this train wreck:

www.craignotbond.com/

Also - Craig can't drive a manual - they had to modify a db5 with an automatic for a part of the film already. He's also afraid of guns...

driving and shooting can be easily faked. i wouldn't have cast daniel craig, but let's give him a chance. at least brosnan is out. whenever they show him running, it looks like he's competing at the special olympics.

OOOO.... reallllllyyyy?????
Like I stated, I am not familiar with the actor. As a gun owning Southerner' that cannot fathom why anyone would want an automtic shift sports car I have to wonder if they have the right guy? Anyway... my real question is this? how hard is it to learn to drive a stick compared to changing the car? I mean come on... 2 three minutes? Is the guy a real a**wipe or something? I guess an Elise or an Esprit would be a real handfull...

Like they say... "It's only acting!"
