Happy New Year all...
(oh yea... the car is an 88 w/ Bosch fuel injection)
I am starting off with fuel flow issues that I really did not ever get corrected . A while back I had my secondary fuel pump start humming upon the turn of the key to the first position and there was a lack of power... So, naturally, I replaced the pump. Well, Have not really taken the car out and really "spooled" up until just before the holidays. Traffic was all at the mall, so I ran out for a quik "Italian tune-up".

Drive fine around the town, but there was a lack of power (again) and after sitting a week or so, the secondary fuel pump started that ol'humming again...

Well, it is new. So, I will be replacing the Fuel Accumulator and (may even replace the secondary fuel pump again to rule out the possibility of having gotten a bad one). However, the accumulator is OEM from new (17 years)and it seems that it is not doing the job of keeping pressure in the lines. So, my thought is that the secondary fuel pump is having to to the job - and it cannot keep up with demand. Thus, I hope to eliminate the lean issue soon cause, a slow Esprit is like Santa landing on your roof in a beat up Pinto!

If I get the, you put a new secondary pump in and shortly afterwards it started doing the same thing. Maybe there is trash before the secondary pump that is taking out your pumps. Maybe you need a new primary pump and strainer or filter or whatever else if before the primary.

What is the pressure at the rail? You might try putting a fuel pressure guage on the rail and tie the guage so that a passenger can see it and go for a short drive with some boost. That should show if the pump isn't keeping up or if you have some other issue.

Good thoughts indeed... but,Bosch system does not have a rail...
It makes use of a fuel distribution unit that 'batch fires' the injectors(GM system is quite different). Jeff at JAE is getting back to me with his "researched" thoughts, but his first thought was like mine - that the fuel accumulator is getting bad as it is 17 years old. The frequency valve is also a possible culprit, but less so and I need to replace the acumulator anyway... I am tracking down the diagnostic steps for the frequency valve just the same...

I located a Bosch system manual (that is not for the Esprit - but the system in general) and the accumulator failure is listed as one of the causes for secondary fuel pump failure... at any rate, as the parts are getting on in years I do not mind the "swaping to trace" method of problem solving tooooo bad.

It sounds like you may be in "Limp Home" Mode.

In the event of a Fuel Pump Failure, the pump system is designed to be drivable on one pump, but with Lousy Performance.

I would suggest that you check your Fuel Pump Relays?

They are 2 located behind the Carpeted Panel in the Rear Trunk area.

With the Key on, but without starting the motor...Jump the Individual Relays to confirm that the pumps are operating correctly.

Put in a new fuel accumulator and a filter today... after a short burblly drive, the motor smoothed out and it seems I have my power back for now. I'll drive a couple days and read the plugs again as I installed new ones today as well.
