Howdy,
Am a young (22) guy from Scotland and have been running around in Scooby's and RS's for the past 5 years and have now decided to move up a class in cars.
Is the GT3 worth buying, nothing else for insurance reasons, im condsidering one but would need a 400mile round journey just to test drive them.
Or should i just get an Elan SE turbo.
Cheers

Shug - simple answer is yes. The GT3 is a fantastic car. I've driven subarus etc in the past, and whilst they're quick and grippy, there's nothing to compare to the satisfaction of driving a mid engined car quickly.
The gt3 has a bit more lag than say, a v8, but when it comes on boost it'll knock your socks off - more so that a stock scooby does. The esprit is also (in my opinion) the BEST handling mid engined car ever made. You can drift it in a way that no ferrari or lambo would ever let you get away with.
As with any esprit, the condition of the car, and the way its been maintianed (or not) will be critical. Buy a dog and you'll really regret selling your scooby. Get a good one however, maintain it correctly and you'll never look back.
I ran a GT3 as my only car for 18k miles (12 months) before trading for a V8-GT. I love the v8, but i still sometimes miss the feeling of 'lightness' and finesse you get with the 2.0 litre.
GT3's are excellent value for money right now. 18k gets a good private sale thru autotrader, 22 or so is tops for a main dealer. For reference, the autocar review posted 0-60 in 4.8 and top speed 160 mph.
There's also some good message board for the esprit on yahoo.
Do it!
cheers
