Yesterday I finally managed to get out in the garage and take the alpine deck out.
I was able to get to the elbow behind it and plug the vacuum pipe back in.
After doing this I hooked the vac pump back up and here is what happened:
The pump runs, stops, runs, stops over and over.

The vent switch now works and when I switch to the defroster vents I get hot air out of them, but only hot air, I cannot make them cold (not sure if the temp control affects them?).

When I switch back to the regular air vents (bringing fresh air or recirculated air) I still get cold air, the air temp dial does not affect temperature at all and will not bring hot air through the vents.

I imagine the vac pump continously running means there is still a leak somewhere. What do you guys think and what is the best way to go about finding this leak. Would this affect the temp control dial at all?

What do you guys think about the temp control dial? What would cause it not to function? Any ideas as to why I cannot get hot air out of my regular vents?

Thanks in advance everyone!

The four face level vents are always cold regardless of the temperature setting. The two screen and two footwell vents are temperature (thermostatically contrlled, believe it or not !) by the temperature control knob.

Best advice regarding the heater air distribution is call the factory up ( +44 (0) 1953 608000) and order supplement section PJ, '93 on. It tells you everything about the heater (but not the vacuum pump ).Hope this helps !!

This a link to a old post about the same problem good luck.
The heater is must where I before and after our brutal winters in Minnesota, We know our A/C too with our 100F high humidity summers. Therefore we know a lot about the 4 cyl Esprit HVAC systems

The Flaps not really thrmostactic controlled although it seems like it is.

Good luck,

The flap isn't thermostatically controlled, but the heater water valve is, hence the temperature control knob might not always seem to have the same effect. Part of the problem here seemed to be that the face vents are not affected by the temperature control and hence with the direction control on face or recirc, the temperature control will have no effect, the air will always be cold unless the valve is not fully closing when the heater is set to cold.
Another confusing factor is that when the heater is set almost fully cold, the driver side screen vent will be much warmer than the other side due to the water pipe to the matrix running adjacent to the driver side screen vent duct.
