I'm looking for the parts & service manual set for a 2003.5 US-spec Esprit. Any thoughts on where to get them or what the Lotus part number might be?

Also, what air filters fit this beast?

And... I have a shattered drivers side foglight lens - any good sources for a replacement. Dealer says they are backordered.

Best Regards, and thanks in advance...

Other than the Lotus filter (that you can get from a dealer), you can also get a few other types of filters. The K&N filter is a euro only part number (USA K&N don't even carry it in their USA catalog). JAE parts will have it, though. www.jae.com

As Ernest said, euro filter... stock are Delco paper, options are K&N (oiled cotton), Green filters (oiled cotton) or ITG (oiled-foam). I stock the ITG and prefer them over others as they filter down to a finer level than cotton filters. I do replace them every 20K miles however.

As for the broken lens, try calling Symbolic Motors in LaJolla, CA. They have about the best stock of Lotus parts I've ever seen and seem to be able to get parts and tools in a very short period of time. Anthony Herrington is the parts guy I deal with and always manages to find what I need.

Thanks for your replies. Rob, any idea which Saab the foglight lens is from or what Saab part number it has? Regarding air filters... anyone know the part numbers? KN - thanks for the Symbolic lead - I'll call your parts man down there today.

No replies on parts/maint. manual. I presume these do not exist or are in short supply for the later V8s?

Thanks again,

Jay

KN: Thanks! Called Symbolic yesterday and talked to Anthony in Part and Lee (sales?). Both were very friendly, helpful and responsive. They knew exactly what they were doing. Anyway, the foglamp is on its way to me. Wish I lived closer - I'm in LA - Symbolic is where I'd like to have the "Hornet" serviced. They used to have a Bevery Hills office.

Regarding female attention drawn by the Esprit. Hmmm. Bright metallic yellow. Loud exhaust. Big starship wing in back. And very rare. Did I mention fun to drive? It draws equal attention from all ages, male and female, even in the LA area where I live. Ferraris & Porsches are common, Lambos sometimes cruise around. But there is only one other Esprit in the neighborhood that I know of. When I bought the car, my wife pointed to another make that "turned her on more..." My reply was that she was missing the point. The Esprit's purpose was not to turn HER on.

Jay,

Get the workshop manual from the factory (+44 (0) 1953 608000) Mine was the equivalent of $75. It's worth every cent ! About two inches thick, it means you've got light reading for weeks ! There are frequent entries on e-bay regarding CD-ROM versions of the workshop manual and parts manuals. Being a sad retent, I bought my manual from my local Lotus dealer but I don't think customers can buy a parts manual directly. The factory are EXTREMELY helpful however. If you don't want to buy a full manual or pirate CD-ROM, why not wait until you get a failure and then contact tech support at the factory.

Toy:

Thanks for the factory number. I'll call them and see if they can send out a copy.

On a different note - I'm really enjoying this machine. I thought I'd gotten a bit jaded over time. But the Esprit is really a different sort of vehicle... like most Lotuses. Its loud, bright yellow and looks more like some sort of spaceship than a car. Its not shy, nor terribly refined, something like a Viper. But its body is more spectacular than a recent Ferrari (even with the engine bay aquarium) or Gallardo (doors closed). And no electronics to help drive. Beautifully responsive. It demands 100% from its driver... which is the whole point.
