Dear All.

Seriously considering a GT3 as there seems to be plenty of good ones about for circa 16K - 18K.

Any advice regarding them? Well aware of the charge cooler pump and ECU issues, also iffy rads and non working air-con.

Any more to be aware of?

Best Regards
Matt

he he he

you forgot to mention the REAL downsides of GT3 ownership though:-

1. loads of attention
2. ppl assuming its a twin turbo anyway
3. reliabilty (use mine everyday untill recently and NEVER gone wrong touch wood)
4. mpg is great
5. best 4 cylinder engine made by lotus (all forged parts)
6. nice seats (if you get the none sofa ones lol)
7. just throw a chip in and its as quick as the rest
8. parts are CHHEEAPPP
9. better hadnling than the rest of the models

etc etc etc

but apart from all that it a really good car he he he he

oh and the charge cooler pump is the same on all models, eithier get a electric one fitted straight away or the impeller is around £10 from a boat shop ha ha ha

Matt. As the GT3 was effectively the last 4 cylinder esprit produced, it got the benefit of all the development from the previous cars AND the v8 programme. With the lower power you are also putting less stress on the drivetrain which aids longevity. I ran one for 12 months/12k miles as my daily driver a few years back and other than putting a clutch in, it cost me nothing other than servicing and tyres.

The only criticism you could level of a GT3 is a lack of low rev torque and heavy clutch when compared to say a V8-GT.

lotusespritworld has all the info you need. Suggest also try the lew forum for some more views.

Post 98 cars get revised cabin, gearchange, wiper.

Cheers Chaps.

Have been scouting around LEW.

Sounds pretty much spot on then. Not really worried about mechanical issues etc. as they look fairly simple so no reason why we won't have the majority of stuff in stock to look after it.

It would probably remain fairly standard, might treat it to some v light wheels, AP's, Re-Map and minor engine fettling but that would be it.

Thanks
Matt

Sounds good. As carl says, if you can find a set, the mag wheels from the sport 350 are extremely light. I had a set on my v8. Total saving vs the stock v8 wheels was 15kg which is a LOT .

There are several companies out there who will do conversions of the brembo's to v8/ap size discs whilst retaining the stock brembo calipers. Thats much cheaper than going for AP's. However, i did do the AP conversion on my v8 and it is AWESOME...

www.pukesprit.de do a bunch of chips for the gt3, plus a large capacity chargecooler is also a popular mod.
