My petrol/gas gauge bulb need to be replaced. Do I take the top dash to access the broken bulb or take the bottom piece? (near the knee).

Anyone here knows what type bulb I need?

Thanks a million

What car?

Most likely, the top part (binnacle) needs to come off so you can get to the guages. The guages come off with the binnacle before the SE. There are some pics on the SE binnacle on Sanj's site, I believe. I used a replacement bulb from the local autoparts store. From my site:

Description Manufacturer Part_number Comments Source Confirmed
Bulb, Light, Small, for VDO instruments EiKO 37 (37BP) For small VDO gauges such as Volt, Fuel. This bulb is slightly larger dia., but fits. Reuse old green condom Dr.Hess Yes

You need to carefully remove the green "condom" thingie from the original bulb and place it over the new bulb. You'll see when you get it out.

Sorry...forgot
Its for Esprit V8. So do you think I should take the top dash rather than the
bottom padding ?

Sorry, I don't know about the interrior of the V8's. There is also the early v. late interriors, I think. I would assume the Lotus Postition (upside down under the dash) and see if you could get to the bulbs _if_ the bottom part were off, but based on all the others, the top part generally has to come off. Maybe someone with V8 dash experience will chime in.

The bulb could have changed too, but that number I listed is pretty common. I think even my Harley uses that one, which is why I had an extra laying around.

If it's a late v8 then it's banana

undo the 2 allen screws that hold the top of the binacle on - they're on the underside in front of the speedo and rev counter.

Pull the top forwards then lift off. The bulbs are easily accesibly from behind, they just pull out.

Stupid me, again forgot to tell you the year.
